Guy Standing: how lockdowns make the case for basic income-online talk

“THE COVID19 pandemic has triggered a surge of interest in basic income as a way of compensating people for the economic hardships imposed”

Guy Standing will be expanding on his latest Economist article and long held research on Universal Basic Income. Join The New International Bookshop online to discuss and explore Professor Standing’s arguments. Guy Standing is a Professorial Research Associate at SOAS University of London and a founding member and honorary co-president of the Basic Income Earth Network (BIEN), a non-governmental organisation that promotes a basic income for all. Standing has written widely in the areas of labour economics, labour market policy, unemployment, labour market flexibility, structural adjustment policies and social protection. His recent work has concerned the emerging precariat class, the need to move towards unconditional basic income and deliberative democracy, and the commons.
